Ramon Llovet (1917-1987)
These lithographs are
actually almost all love letters, veiled messages of desire...
About Ramon
Llovet's
Art
If you know how to read dreams, you know that the
image of a dove always signifies the presence of the female: a mother, a woman, a girl. In
addition to inspired sensuality, these prints are also impregnated with an atmosphere of waiting,
meditation, contemplative observation and a sense
of self-sufficiency. Earth colors are replaced by night colors, from which images of the soul
arise, and perhaps illusions as well.
These lithographs are actually all love letters, veiled
messages of desire and perhaps passion. The dreamy, almost mystically tender motifs appear
repeatedly. I love you, I love you... B that could be the title of some of these prints.
Llovet=s graphic work is suited to many occasions.
It is festive, joyful, meditative, contemplative and dreamy, and would make a lovely decoration
for any wall.
Catalonia has a rich artistic heritage - and its 20th
century artists have already made their unforgettable marks. The most famous of artists went
from village to village as if these were dovecotes. Only to name Dalí, we know that a
part of the history of modern art took place along the
Catalan coast. Llovet, in any case, did not allow himself to get caught up in the uproar.
Although he was influenced by it at first, he placidly
continued along his personal path.
In his old age, Ramon Llovet lived and worked
withdrawn with his family (partially because of his deformity) in the countryside, in Guardiola,
a
village near Barcelona. He had his own printing workshop set up for lithography, of which he
was an expert. Barcelona=s Sala Gaspar exhibited
his works, and promoted and valued him - in close collaboration with him (and in collaboration
with Grafos Verlag of Vaduz), his lithographs were
published in relatively small editions. (His prints are in high demand among collectors, and so,
many are already out of print and thus not
mentioned here.) A splendid set of prints from the period of 1978-81 is still available from
Grafos Verlag, with the official seal of the Sala Gaspar
printing workshops. With these prints, we can delve into Ramon Llovet=s pictorial world of
sensibilities, which he illuminated in fine colors. ek
