Piero Dorazio
Prints Available from Grafos Verlag
| In 1971, Erker Presse, St. Gallen,
published the book 'La Luce' with the poetry of Ungaretti and 13 color lithographs
by Piero Dorazio. He remained in contact with the Erker Gallery. In 1976,
two more of his lithographs were printed there: 'Sapsikos' and the portfolio
accompanying the poetry of Peter Huchel. At the same time, Erker Verlag,
St. Gallen, published a monograph on Piero Dorazio, with a copy of Ungaretti's
speech at Dorazio's 1966 exhibit in St. Gallen (further exhibits followed
on into recent times). In 1978, Dorazio's book 'Aughé' was printed
by Erker Presse, and in 1987 the lithograph portfolio 'Kokkora'. The friendship
fostered by Dorazio with Erker Gallery in St. Gallen is herein evident.
The lithographs on offer here are the result of this long collaboration. |

The lithographs available from Grafos Verlag
stem from two of the artist's different periods. All of the prints were
published by Erker Presse in St. Gallen. 'The
Pulse of Light', from 1983, displays an extremely sensitive
perpendicular division of space and direction of light, as is characteristic
for Dorazio. Something of this - although in a dynamic movement stemming
from a single center - has been preserved in 'Aurora'
(1985). Two individual prints on opposite poles, which complement each
other, are: 'Cercles
du Matin' (1992), a spiraling creation of fine stacked
moons on a white ground, and the moons inside one another, green, white,
red and yellow on a dark blue ground; 'Cercles
de Nuit' (1992) rests on a tranquil night-blue background.
Persuasive color lithographs from his earliest period, of intense beauty,
filled to the edge of the paper and carrying the Erker Presse stamp
of quality. ek
