Uecker
Biographical Sketch
Günther Uecker was born on March 13, 1930 in Wendorf (Mecklenburg). One of the
most reknowned German painters
and objet artists, he began early with Conceptual Art. In 1955-57 he created his structured relief
paintings and after
1958, his central motif appeared in the 'Nail Rhythms'. He joined the Zero Group along with
Macke and Piene (1961)
and constructed his Kinetic Light Mills. Began typographic experiments, printwork and relief
paintings in 1966. In the
80's he worked with ashes, grass and branches. Created the series: The Endangering of Man by
Man, a theatre set for
Bremen in 1986 and Stuttgart. In 1980 he painted reflective landscapes in watercolor which,
along with the relief
paintings, were later transposed into prints. ek
