A Brief Introduction to Graphic Printing Techniques

Grafos Verlag editions are characterized by the use of high quality printing techniques. Collaboration with the best printing houses in Europe as well as renowned ateliers are guarantees for high quality results. Some of these printing houses have long entered the annals of art history, some inventing revolutionary new techniques for graphic art which are already amongst the classics of graphic creation, whether this be in the field of lithography or etching, woodcut, silkscreen or mixed techniques. Grafos Verlag Vaduz offers an incredibly rich and prominent range of graphic works.

A Brief History of Graphic Printing and the Techniques Involved

Graphic art has been a true companion to the visual arts since the advent of graphic reproduction, and has become its active participant in artistic innovation during the course of this century. In addition to the artistic aspect, it has also always taken on the social roll of providing public information. Through the reproduction of originals, art became affordable for many. This characteristic of accessibility to the public is still true today.

The beginnings of graphic printing techniques appeared together with the introduction of paper into the European culture, and since then, graphic art has remained true to beautiful, often hand-made paper, the splendid deckle-edge wove paper and Japan Paper.

There are many large and small handbooks on graphic techniques. For collectors, it is a good idea to get to know the different graphic techniques. Familiarity with the creation process enriches the observer and provides insight into the painterly preoccupations of the artist - and trains the eye to detect forgeries.
